The Institute for Public Good: Educating for Lives of Leadership and Service

Chris Marsicano ’10, Chair and Associate Professor of Educational Studies and Director of the Institute for Public Good

In this session, Dr. Chris Marsicano will introduce Davidson’s new Institute for Public Good (IPG), a hub for research, teaching and community engagement that prepares students for lives of leadership, service and integrity. He will outline the IPG’s five program areas—Civic Engagement, Deliberation and Free Expression, Public Policy and Research, Arts in Public Life, and Ethics, Honor, and Leadership—and share how the Institute supports Davidson students in addressing societal challenges while advancing the public good.

The new George Lawrence Abernethy Library—scheduled to open in Fall 2027—will be a dynamic community hub that sparks curiosity, discovery and creativity through spaces for making and sharing, teaching and learning, and inquiry and sense-making. Join Lisa Forrest, The Leland M. Park Director of the Davidson College Library, for an update on the project and a preview of the innovative programming planned for the new library.

60th Reunion Class Dinner

It’s dinner and drinks—only better! Join us for a memorable 60th Reunion dinner featuring a plated meal and an open bar with beer and wine. Enjoy time to catch up with friends and celebrate classmates receiving an Alumni Award. Classmate John Craig will also be giving a presentation titled The Vietnam War: Remembrance and Lessons. As a US Foreign Service officer, John Craig '66; led military advisory teams in the rural Mekong Delta in 1969-71. The period when the US was turning the war back over to the Vietnamese and the focus became, belatedly, "winning the hearts and minds" of the population. After charting the origins of the Vietnam War, he will address why South Vietnam did not succeed as a country, and offer lessons on the war still relevant today. For his service in Vietnam, Craig received from Ambassador Ellsworth Bunker the Citation for Heroic Service. It will be an evening to remember!

Hear from classmates who are current entrepreneurs as they share how their Davidson experience shaped their professional success. The conversation will be moderated by a representative from the Jay Hurt Hub, who will also share how Hurt Hub expands access to innovation and entrepreneurship for Davidson students, alumni, faculty, staff, co-workers and the broader community.
